Bumbershoot Takes Over Nordstrom Flagship's 5th Ave. Windows

Have you seen them yet?

Bumbershoot, Seattle’s Festival, has taken over the Fifth Avenue display windows of the Nordstrom Downtown Seattle flagship store, paying homage to the festival’s nearly five decades of art, music, and culture through specially designed installations.

“"Bumbershoot and Nordstrom are vital components of Seattle's cultural identity,” said Chris Weber, One Reel. “It was a pleasure to delve into the thousands of items that comprise the Bumbershoot archives and super exciting to see how the designers at Nordstrom were able to create window displays that reflect five distinct decades of the Festival."

In its 115-year history, this is only one of a dozen times Nordstrom has allowed a local institution to temporarily take over its coveted sidewalk real estate. The last visiting display was unveiled in 2014 in honor of Seattle-based Sub Pop Records owners, Bruce Pavitt and Jonathan Poneman, receiving a tile on the Nordstrom Walk of Fame.

“Our city has a long history of cultivating and inspiring the styles that influence our nation and our world,” said Lindsey Pearce, Nordstrom Downtown Seattle store manager. “Nordstrom is proud to be a part of that history, and we’re all thrilled to partner with Bumbershoot for this imaginative project.”

The window displays will remain in place through Bumbershoot, which takes place at Seattle Center this weekend, September 2-4.
